Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd is actively monitoring and responding to the impact of floods on the state's power grid. The company is taking steps to ensure the safe operation of the electricity supply in affected areas.
Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd will continue to monitor the electricity supply in areas affected by floods to ensure its proper and safe operation. Mohd Yusmanizam Mohd Yusof, the chief operating officer, stated that a technical team is on 24-hour standby to repair any damage in flood-hit districts, including Kota Marudu, Telupid, Lahad Datu, Pitas, Kota Belud, Beluran, Sandakan, Paitan, Beaufort, and Tongod. The company is also deploying mobile generator sets in strategic locations.
As of tonight, the number of flood evacuees in Sabah has risen to 4,383 people from 1,475 families, staying in 34 relief centers. This represents an increase from 3,929 victims from 1,365 families earlier in the evening. However, due to safety concerns, flooded electricity substations have been shut down. Repair work will commence once the water level recedes and the situation is deemed safe.Mohd Yusmanizam said Sabah Electricity has opened operations rooms in all affected districts to monitor the situation and respond quickly to any electrical safety concerns. He advised the public to exercise caution when using electrical appliances in flood-affected areas and avoid touching electrical appliances or switches with wet or damp hands to prevent electric shocks.
