KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government released guidelines for Deepavali celebration on Thursday (Nov 4) under the non-Muslim religious houses standard operating procedure (SOP).

According to the SOP, attendance is allowed at 50% capacity with at least one metre physical distancing observed, said Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

"Management committee and attendees must be fully vaccinated and children under 12 must be accompanied by fully-inoculated parents. "No crowding is allowed outside the religious house and activities with physical contact are prohibited. "Any food must be distributed in packed form to be brought home," he said in a statement on Wednesday .Two new clusters also contributed to the higher numbers, where an illegal taxi driver in the Tumbalang-Ranau cluster triggered 56 infections.

"Another community cluster, Sawit Jati in Kinabatangan, involved an Indonesian plantation gatekeeper as the index case, which led to 25 cases so far," said Masidi.
