KOTA KINABALU: Sabah police have seized more than RM1.9mil worth of alcohol in three raids last week.
State Police Commissioner Datuk Zaini Jass said they also arrested seven suspects following the raids. A total of 18,320 cartons of alcohol in seven large storage containers, believed to have been smuggled in from neighbouring countries, were seized on June 23 and 29.
"In the first raid, a police team in Tuaran had found 8,040 cartons of alcohol from a storehouse at KM27, Jalan Telipok Lama, at about 12.05pm," he said at a press conference at the state police headquarters in Kepayan near here Thursday . Zaini said two men, the caretaker and supervisor of the storehouse aged 25 and 34 respectively, were detained to facilitate investigations. He said three lorry drivers aged from 37 to 67 were also detained during subsequent raids at Jalan Kilang in Kolombong and Jalan Tuaran Bypass here on June 29. A 45-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman, who were believed to have had a hand in the paperwork for the containers were subsequently nabbed, he said.Before the press conference, Zaini witnessed the city police team destroy gambling paraphernalia that were seized between 2005 and 2015 in Sabah.Article type: free
