KOTA KINABALU: The fundraising programme to assist China following the novel coronavirus outbreak is a way to repay a friend in times of need, says Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

The Chief Minister said Sabah would stand together and increase rapport with China in both good and bad times.

“I met with the China Consulate General on Monday while the Deputy Chief Minister has been planning ways to render assistance.“It is our responsibility as China is a good neighbour and has been helping us over the years in terms of boosting tourism. I think it is time for us to repay and show a gesture of good will, ” he said after the launching of the state e-wallet Sabah Pay yesterday.

In a related matter, Shafie assured that the China direct flight suspension, which was followed by the banning of any tourists and Malaysians with recent travel history to China to enter Sabah, was a temporary measure.“I have informed them that Sabah is a bit handicapped in medical facilities, so we cannot build new temporary outfit for any eventualities, ” he said.navy.

“This will take time. For now, the fallback option in tourism sector is to restructure their plans and bring in those from other markets, including intensifying domestic tourism.“Since last year, we wanted to engage more rangers in monitoring and enforcement. “Previously, elephant deaths are not just caused by poachers but also due to water poisoning from possible pollution, ” he said.
