KOTA KINABALU: The deployment of the police's Tiger Platoon in Sabah will boost the capability of state agencies in the fight against the illegal wildlife trade, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
"The help from the Tiger Platoon will provide more expertise and capability in our fight against wildlife crime," Shafie told reporters Tuesday after launching the Sabah Agriculture Blueprint.
"We appreciate and welcome the move by the police to assist the state in our efforts to protect wildlife, he said.Hamid, on Monday , said that the Tiger Platoon would work together with state agencies to carry out patrols against poachers as well as participate in joint operations to curb rising incidents of wildlife crimes, particularly Bornean pygmy elephants.
The latest discovery on Sunday was the carcass of a bull elephant that had apparently been chopped up and floating down the Kinabatangan river. Only 30% of its body was recovered.
