KOTA KINABALU: Some 10 million face masks will be distributed to students and teachers statewide in a bid to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said although the state government had distributed some 75,000 masks and 60,000 hand sanitisers to schools, the number is not enough.
“We know that face masks are not reusable and that is why we need more to distribute to students and teachers in the 236 schools statewide, ” he said after visiting some schools including SMK Agama and SM Datuk Peter Mojuntin near here Monday .Shafie said that with the reopening of schools, he has instructed health and education officials to submit reports on developments and problems that arise on a daily basis.
“This is to ascertain whether the Standard Operating Procedures are adhered to and what are the problems faced, ” he said. He added the most important thing is to ensure that facilities such as hostels as well as the water and food supply are clean.“There is no vaccine against Covid-19 so far, the only 'vaccine' we have is to adopt good hygiene and preventive measures, ” he said.
