Sabah-based enterprise lauded for authentic souvenirs, empowering local women

The duo behind the enterprise - Allen and Bethany Dawson - worked with local women to create apparel, bags and various accessories with designs rooted in local heritage.

Changgih Designs, which was founded by an American couple in 2015, reached a new milestone with its first retail store at the city centre here on Monday .

“Engaging our skilled women helps to maintain Sabah’s rich cultural heritage and keeps the craft-making talents alive so they can hopefully pass their craft skills to future generations,” he said. “In a globalised world where mass-produced, generic souvenirs dominate the market, Sabah aims to offer unique and culturally meaningful alternatives.
