Speirs said that his departure provided enough time for the Liberal party's success at the next state election.
The state's Liberal Party leader made the decision after recent"This has not been an easy decision, however I believe it is in my best interests and that of my family," Speirs said in a statement.David Speirs has announced he will step down from as South Australian opposition leader.
Speirs said the demands of his role as a leader made spending quality time with family more difficult and that his departure provided enough time for the party's success ahead of the next election. "With just over 18 months until the next State Election, I feel now is the right time to depart from the role and give the next Leader the best possible opportunity to succeed in 2026," he said.
"I am proud of what I have achieved as Leader of the Liberal Party, and I have led a team that has rebuilt following the devastating 2022 State Election loss. "This has included reconnecting with regional South Australians, those in the suburbs, and working closely with communities and industry groups to support strong policy development, on track to be announced well ahead of 2026."He confirmed he would remain in parliament as the Member for Black.
