KUCHING: The Sarawak government welcomes the National Heritage Department's bid to nominate the state's songket keringkam for recognition on Unesco's Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said songket keringkam was part of Sarawak's heritage which had been handed down over generations.

"Songket keringkam has the potential to be accorded world recognition because of its artistic and cultural values," he said during a courtesy call by the department at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here on Monday . Abang Johari said the state government was committed to assist Sarawak's songket keringkam industry, including providing funds for its development and promotion both locally and abroad.
