Bookies BoyleSports released their odds this morning.
Ryan Tubridy has been backed to enter the race for the Aras – but Michael Martin is the likely candidate for the job.
The role will change hands next year when Higgins’ second term comes to an end and punters are growing more confident that Martin will set his sights on Áras an Uachtaráin after the next general election, which Taoiseach Simon Harris insists will happen early in 2025.READ MORE: Details of president's expenses branded 'outrageous' in senator's scathing criticism
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “The opinion polls make slightly better reading for Fianna Fáil of late, but punters are still expecting Micheál Martin to follow the trend of party leaders bowing out. That would certainly increase speculation around a bid for the Áras and he’d have to be a leading contender if his hat goes in the ring.”
Virgin Radio UK host Tubridy shares a close friendship with President Higgins, often hosting the Aras summer garden parties as well as conducting big interviews with the President on The Late Late Show. He even interviewed the President for his final show last month.
