Can $15 a month really buy you a good cell phone plan from Mint Mobile? Ryan Reynolds wants you to think so.
The good news is that customers of each major network have a cheaper option. But to get the lower price you also sacrifice some speed and other features.Simply put, wireless companies will slow down a customer’s data speeds if the network gets congested. Since I’m a Mint Mobile customer, T-Mobile will prioritize its customers over me. This is oversimplifying a little bit, because deprioritization is used for multiple reasons. These are some of the ways budget cell plans cut costs.
That being said, Verizon has few dead zones. I just happen to live in one. And for people living in other places the opposite could be true. Keep in mind, the $15 plan Reynolds advertises in commercials only gives you 4 GB of data. I think paying $20 for the 10 GB plan is more reasonable., one reader told me they have Google Fi and rarely use more than 1 GB a month. The carrier sells three-, six- and 12-month long plans, offering discounts for longer commitments. So, to keep the $15-a-month basic plan, or the $30 unlimited plan, you need to buy a year’s worth of service.
