On a third or subsequent offense, resulting penalty could be a loss of one full season of eligibility. If the new guidelines are passed, Williams would avoid a suspension for his gambling activities as a first-time offender. He will likely still need to sit out the 2023-24 season due to being a two-time transfer — he is unlikely to receive a waiver to play this winter from the NCAA, people with knowledge of the situation told NJ Advance Media — but there would be no concerns about him missing time during the 2024-25 campaign.
