NSTletters: NEXT year, Malaysia will celebrate Rukun Negara’s 50th anniversary. This milestone commemorates the guiding principles for Malaysians. But sadly, not many remember the five tenets.
Seven speakers from the main religions in Malaysia shared how their faith contributed to nation building. It was heartening to note the congruency and similarities in the values expressed in the religionsA representative from the National Unity and Integration Department under the Prime Minister’s Department attended the forum, as well as guests from the various religions.and other nationalistic songs.
At the end of the forum, participants committed what they could to make a difference in their communities and work place. These were written on pieces of paper and stuck onto a map of Malaysia.Through dialogue and ecumenical programmes we can achieve peace, harmony, mutual understanding, unity and respect among Malaysians, the foundation necessary for nation building.
