EDITORIAL: Instead of pointing fingers at the media, Chris Ronayne needs to acknowledge that this festering problem remains dangerous for staff and for kids in need.

about the dangers being created -- and that had apparently been tolerated for years -- by warehousing hard-to-place kids at the county’s Jane Edna Hunter Social Services Center. A county office building where kids, many with serious mental health, medical and criminal histories, could not plausibly receive needed help, proper supervision or even proper food.

Ronayne has been the county executive since January and, while he has made some moves to try to curtail the problems and talks of plans for a new campus to replace the Jane Edna Hunter optionhe has not acted “with a sense of urgency.” The violence that February night started with a single youth who went on a violent rampage, but it didn’t end there.
