It has been 11 days since the last confirmed sighting of an alligator in a New Jersey park, police said.
There have been no confirmed sightings of the alligator in or near Victor Crowell Park since Aug. 26, when. The alligator immediately submerged below the surface of the water after the shot was fired, but it was unclear if it had been hit, Borough Police Lt. Thomas Falk said Wednesday.
In addition to police using boats and drones, state wildlife workers have deployed several traps on an island in Lake Creighton. “Sometimes, however, these animals are purchased out of state and brought into New Jersey illegally. The owners often release them in local water bodies when they find they can no longer care for the animal,” Hajna said.
