The Rockets are still tinkering with how to win tight games, and who should be awarded...

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry drives to the hoop against Houston Rockets forward Jabari Smith Jr. in the first quarter of an NBA game at Chase Center in San Francisco, Calif., Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022.SAN FRANCISCO — Although it may not be obvious to the casual observer of their 6-17 record, the Rockets are as accustomed to playing in close games as they are to blowouts.

“We just play hard,” said Eason, who finished with 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting. “I think that's just our biggest thing that we had coming into this. Whatever the first unit has, whatever they're doing, whether they're good or bad, we just need to come with a whole different energy. So as long as we do that, you know, sometimes good results happen.”

Rockets starting center Alperen Sengun did not play at all in the fourth quarter, despite the fact he was 6-of-9 from the field in 20 minutes played through three quarters. In the last five minutes of clutch games, the Rockets average an NBA-worst 5.6 points on 33.3 percent shooting. But Porter said he has observed growth in how the Rockets have maintained poise in clutch situations as the season progresses. Houston nabbed two of its last three wins, against Atlanta and Phoenix, by coming from behind and executing down the stretch.
