Local residents of various religious faiths met at the Islamic Center of Rochester on Sunday to make a collective call for peace in Israel and Palestine.
"We decided that ok, we should all get together, not only Muslims, all interfaith," said Zaka Ansari, president of the Islamic Center of Rochester. "That is the most important thing to get all religions together and stand together for peace."
Local leaders in the Islamic, Jewish, and Christian faiths all led their own prayers in hopes of inspiring peace abroad."Interfaith alliances are part of the heart and fabric of the Rochester community," said Rabbi David Abrahams of the Congregation Etz Chaim.
Attendees were comforted by the number of people who came out to pray together during a difficult time. "People from all religions and all backgrounds are really hurting today because of the news that they're seeing on television, so this was extremely important," said Zia Masoom, a member of the Islamic Center of Rochester who resides in Pittsford. "I am really glad to see there are so many people of different faiths and backgrounds coming over here to pray for peace."
