Non-allies who have switched support to Vice President Leni Robredo are no political turncoats, adding their support was not done to curry favor with the presidential candidate, her camp said Tuesday.
Ibarra Gutierrez, spokesperson for Robredo, made the response when asked about Robredo's support for a law banning political turncoatism during the Commission on Elections debate over the weekend.
Gutierrez said that forming alliance with Robredo is anchored on common principles, values and vision for the country. Gutierrez said previous non-allies throwing their support to Robredo only proves that her campaign is gaining ground. Gutierrez also dismissed criticisms that the people attending Robredo's campaign rallies are the same people and as such mere echo chamber that will not translate to votes.
