The Public Service Department (PSD) will channel RM56 million to 28 ministries to upskill civil servants in seven priority areas identified by the Madani Government. These areas include artificial intelligence, digital transformation, cybersecurity, energy transition, food security and technology, national boundary management, and disaster management. The PSD aims to reduce the government's reliance on foreign expertise by equipping civil servants with the necessary skills and knowledge.

An additional RM56 million allocation will soon be channeled to 28 ministries to enhance the competencies of civil servants in seven key areas, according to Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz, the director-general of the Public Service Department. These seven areas of focus encompass artificial intelligence, digital transformation, cybersecurity, energy transition, food security and technology, national boundary management, and disaster management.

Wan Ahmad Dahlan emphasized that these areas are priorities for the Madani Government, as highlighted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the 19th Civil Service Premier Message Gathering (MAPPA-19) last year. The 28 ministries involved have the flexibility to identify officers who require training relevant to their specific ministerial needs, including areas that require development within each ministry. The department distributes the allocation to the 28 ministries because they possess a deeper understanding of the specific areas required within their respective ministries based on these seven new focus areas. Proposals from the ministries are submitted to the department for evaluation to ensure they align with the intended goals. For example, the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry focuses on food technology, the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) concentrates on disaster management, and the Digital Ministry prioritizes digital transformation. The government aims to bring the skills and knowledge of civil servants to par with those of foreign consultants, reducing reliance on external expertise and subsequently saving on national expenditure. Wan Ahmad Dahlan expressed confidence that the public service team is progressing in the right direction towards the government's objective of providing more intensive exposure for civil servants. Since last year, the department, through the Accelerated Course for Competency Excellence (ACE) program, now known as the Government Expertise and Consultant Development Programme (PRESTIJ), has sent 88 officers abroad for six-month training stints in the United Kingdom, Australia, India, and China. These officers, upon their return, will impart their knowledge to other civil servants, creating a ripple effect throughout the service.Officers with project papers are recognized by the institutions where they studied and are encouraged to present their work. Furthermore, the department aims to gather officers from every ministry to share ideas that can be applied across different sectors for further improvement. For this year, the department will continue the program by offering 140 slots, incorporating improvements such as hybrid training programs to increase participation. In addition, the Public Service Department, through 15 other sponsorship programs under In-Service Training (LDP), including the Federal Training Award Programme (HLP), Half Scholarship Federal Training Award (HLPSB), and other in-house programs, will continue to prioritize areas of study crucial to the country's development.Wan Ahmad stated that the National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN), overseen by the department, also offers training courses in these seven new focus areas for public servants. He emphasizes the importance of a shared understanding of these areas among implementing groups and top management to ensure continuity. For the record, 41 courses related to the seven new focus areas were conducted in 2024, with 112,657 participants from various levels
