Residents of Yong Peng’s Taman Jelita will soon be free of flood woes.
The Johor government has approved a special allocation of RM200,000 to improve the drainage system in the area, says Yong Peng assemblyman Ling Tian Soon.“This is because Taman Jelita is located on low-lying ground and the drainage system there is connected to those from other areas.
Taman Jelita in Yong Peng is located in a low-lying area, making it prone to floods during heavy rain. “A few years ago, the area was also identified as a flood hotspot because floodwaters would rise to about 1m high during a downpour, causing worry and inconvenience among residents,” he said. Ling said Ayer Hitam MP Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong had previously obtained a government allocation of RM6.4mil to upgrade the drainage system from Parit Ah Hock to Taman Jelita.
He said the project had improved the situation greatly but the recent rainy season had caused flash floods to occur again.“The project is expected to begin around September,” said Ling, who is also Johor health and unity committee chairman.
