Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysia Red Crescent Society has received RM100,000 in funding support from ConocoPhillips Malaysia to strengthen its emergency preparedness and response capabilities across Sabah .
The contribution marks the second consecutive year the energy company has extended financial assistance to MRCS, reinforcing a continued partnership aimed at supporting vulnerable communities affected by disasters and unforeseen incidents. MRCS Director Jenny Kwong said the organization’s role extends beyond distributing aid, highlighting its various community empowerment programmes, including hygiene awareness training, home-based sanitation courses, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation instruction. “Our mission is not only to provide immediate assistance but also to build resilience within communities,” she said. ConocoPhillips Malaysia President Connor Dunn said the contribution reflects the company’s commitment to helping communities strengthen resilience and preparedness.
“This contribution is intended to help MRCS respond swiftly when incidents occur and to strengthen preparedness so that communities across Sabah are better protected over the long term,” he said. The latest contribution builds on ConocoPhillips Malaysia’s longstanding support for humanitarian efforts in Sabah. Last year, the company supported flood relief operations that enabled MRCS to assist nearly 300 affected families across the state.
In addition to supporting MRCS, the company has also contributed RM1.26 million to the Women and Children’s Hospital in Likas. ConocoPhillips, headquartered in Houston, Texas, is involved in the exploration, development, and production of crude oil and natural gas and has been operating in Sabah for the past 11 years. Among those present during the handover ceremony were MRCS chairman Datuk Asnan Chung, planning and development chairman Charles Mogindol, director Jenny Kwong, and blood programme Chairman Richard Chua.
