The Port Harcourt side defeated the visitors 3-1 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium. It was Rivers United 's first victory of the season, while Heartland , who are under the tutelage of former Super Eagles winger, Emmanuel Amuneke remain winless. Kabir Abdullahi bagged a brace for Rivers United , while new signing Taofeek Otaniyi was also on target.

'It was a good game, we started with a high tempo and after that goal the tempo dropped and Heartland) started playing, unfortunately, they got that goal and we were furious about it. 'We have to ginger the boys, especially in the second half,' Finidi said during his interaction with the media after the game. 'The second half was for us; they couldn't do much apart from one or two breaks they had; we controlled the game, and overall, we deserved to win.
