The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has stated its intention to proceed with Saturday's local elections despite a Federal High Court ruling halting them. Earlier reports claimed that the RSIEC secretariat in Port Harcourt had been sealed off following the court order.
However, Grace Iringe-Koko, the police spokesperson in Rivers, refuted these claims, stating that police presence at the facility was solely for security purposes during nationwide protests on October 1st and not intended to interfere with the electoral process. Despite the Federal High Court's ruling, RSIEC Chairperson Adolphus Enebeli cited a State High Court ruling mandating the commission to proceed with the elections
