Optimus Primal teased how dangerous Transformers: Rise of the Beasts' villain is in the first trailer, and that could mean some Transformers will die.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is hyping up the franchise's new villain Scourge, and it means a Transformer needs to die in the new movie. After primarily using Megatron as the villain of past films, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is introducing a new antagonist to the fold with Scourge. The powerful leader of the Terrorcons joins the Transformers prequel movie as the franchise brings multiple new factions of robots.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The movie's marketing has done little to promote Scourge's role to this point, but the first Transformers: Rise of the Beasts trailer did include a few teases of his presence. He is seen overpowering Bumblebee in one shot and charging into battle against the Autobots and Maximals in the presumed final fight. However, Optimus Primal does deliver a rather ominous tease about the threat level that Scourge brings with him.

It would seem that Optimus Primal is speaking about Scourge with some authority on his actions. As the leaders of the Maximals and Terrorcons, there is a good chance that Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will establish they have some history together. Scourge could have a reputation for killing Transformers in the past, possibly at the command of Unicron, who could be the new Transformers trilogy's overall villain.

The Transformers Movie Canon Prevents Any Major Deaths The pre-existing franchise canon is the biggest issue that Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will encounter to make Scourge kill a meaningful Transformer. The movie is technically a prequel to Michael Bay's Transformers movies in the timeline. While the live-action franchise has included plenty of retcons, the prominent roles that Optimus Prime and Bumblebee play in later movies mean they can't die.

The workaround for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts could be Scourge killing some of the newer characters the movie introduces. This could include anyone from Mirage to Optimus Primal to Airazor. Scourge killing these Transformers might not pack the same emotional impact as seeing Optime Prime die for instance, but Transformers: Rise of the Beasts cannot kill Prime or Bumblebee based on future movies.
