The art takes the form of a digitally sped-up Instagram art video. In the video, the artist substitutes Morty’s animated features for more realistic ones. What results is a somewhat horrifying rendition of Morty. Rather than his 2D-animated eyes, the reimagined Morty has bulging eyeballs that look too big for his head. Morty’s face shape remains intact, accentuating the disproportionate features such as a small nose, small ears, and uncomfortably large eyes.
This Video Proves Live-Action Rick & Morty Shouldn’t Happen Though it would not be rendered in this way, a live-action adaptation of Rick and Morty has long been in talks. While creator Dan Harmon has said that any film version of Rick and Morty would more likely take the form of an extended episode, the discourse surrounding the prospects of live-action Rick and Morty movie has been floated for years.
While some have taken to these rumors through dream-casting a Rick and Morty movie, other fans have been outraged by the suggestion that Rick and Morty ever become a film, live-action or not. Gunn himself even said that, despite being a Rick and Morty lover, he “would not touch” a film adaptation. The director cited the fact that “the animated series is just so beautiful and perfect” as the reason for not wanting to direct a Rick and Morty film.
Even with these more realistic features tacked on, the Instagram art is far from what an actual live-action Rick and Morty film would look like. Nonetheless, the horridness of Morty’s metamorphosis is a great reminder of another reason why Rick and Morty should not get a live-action adaptation. The animated series is just too precious, and its style too distinct, to reasonably be given live-action treatment.
