London Fashion Week came to a riveting close at the International Woolmark Prize fashion show, where the labels and designers A-Cold-Wall, Blindness, Bode, Botter, Feng Chen Wang, GmbH, Ludovic de Saint Sernin, Matthew Adams Dolan, Namacheko, and Richard Malone showed off clothes made with sustainable Woolmark wool. I know what you’re thinking: A wool-centric fashion show doesn’t sound too riveting. But thanks to the superior talent of the finalists, this year was a truly exciting display.

Aesthetically, Malone reflected on his youth in Wexford, Ireland, citing the workwear of the area as a reference. “Workwear is part of the codes of where I grew up, it’s a really working class community,” he said. “Uniforms are a really important part of that. I think it often gets sort of fetishized and appropriated in a way that’s not authentic.
As for what Bode will do with her prize money, she hinted at an expanded retail universe. “We’re looking at investing in retail again. Our store on Hester Street [in New York] has worked so beautifully. It’s gone above and beyond our expectations, so I think it’s really the moment to continue to invest in direct-to-consumer.
