Foreign Minister Penny Wong has called for the “responsible leadership” of China to prevail so that it can help bring peace to Ukraine.
But last week China’s foreign ministryin a bid to pressure Kyiv and Moscow to the negotiating table.
Speaking after her meeting with Qin Gang in New Delhi, Ms Wong said Australia backs Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky’s call for China to do the right thing. Secretary of State Antony Blinken first raised concerns about the supplying of weapons after he held a meeting with China’s top diplomat Wang Yi.President Zelensky welcomed China’s statement and said he planned to meet with Xi Jinping.
