Republican candidates for Carmel mayor launch television ads ahead of primary election

The television ads are a sign of how competitive the Republican primary to replace longtime Mayor Jim Brainard has become.

Kory Wood, a partner at Ascent Strategic and a senior advisor to Finkam's campaign, said in an email that the total ad buy for Finkam's 30-second spot is five figures and is expected to increase ahead of the primary. The ad is planned across TV, streaming, social media and texts to Republican primary voters, Wood said.

Brainard himself used TV ads dating back to his first campaign for mayor of Carmel in 1995, the mayor said. In an interview with IndyStar, Tuesday he recalled that the Republican primary in spring 1995 lined up with the OJ Simpson trial. The trial drew large ratings numbers, so Brainard said his campaign continued to buy ad time.
