Officials reported a Tarrant County inmate assaulted a pregnant medical worker last week, and she is no longer with child as a result.
FORT WORTH, Texas —
While in custody of the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office on April 12, 2023, 39-year-old inmate Cheri Akil was reportedly suicidal. Around noon, a medical staff member at John Peter Smith Hospital was treating a restrained Akil. As the worker stood in proximity to the inmate’s bed, Akil reportedly punched her in the stomach.The pregnant worker was rushed to the JPS Trauma Unit for treatment. After an ultrasound was performed, the hospital confirmed that her unborn child had no pulse.
Charged with murder, Akil is securely detained at JPS Hospital until she can be booked into the Tarrant County Jail, authorities said.
