Some repentant Boko Haram insurgents have attacked a police station in Maiduguri the Borno State capital in an attempt to free their arrested colleagues. It was gathered that some of the repentant terrorists were arrested by operatives of the state police command for allegedly indulging in nefarious activities.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Borno State, Kenneth Daso, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, said the suspects also attacked the Nigeria Immigration Service and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, checkpoints. The PPRO, however, revealed that the assailants, who invaded the police station, were repelled by officers on duty.
He said, “Following an intelligence report that some drug peddlers, smokers, repentant and Boko Haram insurgents are indulging in nefarious activities, eight persons were arrested including seven male and a female in that operation with 476grams of illicit substances. “As you know, such activities have been banned in the area by the state government since last year.
