The Tread+ treadmills were recalled by Peloton in May 2021.
said that a new rear safety guard will be available in the fall of 2023 for the recalled Tread+ treadmills.after a child died when pulled under the machine and dozens of people were injured.
“Adult users, children, pets, and objects can be pulled underneath the rear roller, posing a risk of injury or death. Since the May 2021 recall, there have been 279 additional reported incidents and 61 additional reports of injuries. To date, in addition to the reported death, Peloton has received a total of 351 incident reports of pull-unders, including 90 reports of injuries to consumers,” the commission said in a news release.
According to the safety commission, Peloton was required by law to report that the treadmill contained a defect “that could create a substantial product hazard and created an unreasonable risk of serious injury to consumers.” The guard is expected to be available this fall. Treadmill owners can register in advance to receive one, free. The commission said treadmill owners also can request a full refund until Nov. 6, 2023, or a prorated refund thereafter.
