Rep. George Santos handed several charges in indictment
Long Island Rep. George Santos arrived to federal court in Central Islip Wednesday morning to surrender to authorities — as prosecutors revealed he faces several counts of fraud, money laundering and other charges.Santos, 34, is in custody in the courthouse, a rep with the prosecutors office confirmed.
The Republican lawmaker made headlines last year after copping to elaborate lies about his background and work experience. He has been under scrutiny for his fundraising practices during his successful 2022 House campaign. His financial disclosure filings were reportedly being probed after he reporting making $750,000 from his Devolder Organization consulting firm and additional dividends worth between $1 million and $5 million.Meanwhile in 2020, Santos only reported making $55,000 for his annual salary.
