The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) reported an encouraging drop in crime rates within the country’s waters. This decrease is attributed to continuous operations and international collaborations, such as the Redback Operation with the Australian Border Force (ABF). The number of cases under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act (ATIPSOM) has notably decreased from 13 in 2022 to four in 2023.

“Throughout this year, the MMEA foiled 64 cases involving illegal immigrants, with 249 individuals detained,” he told a media conference after officiating the closing of the Redback Operation 19/2024 between the MMEA and Australian Border Force here today.
