Boston Red Sox outfielder Adam Duvall was placed on the injured list with a fractured left wrist on Monday, the team announced.
Duvall did not make the trip with the Red Sox to Florida for their four-game series with the Tampa Bay Rays that starts on Monday night. He was undergoing additional tests on his wrist in Boston. It’s unclear if he’ll need surgery, but manager Alex Cora expects that Duvall will be out for an extended period.."It's a big blow. But at the same time, somebody has to step up. At one point we hope he comes back.
Duvall underwent surgery on his left wrist last summer to repair a torn tendon, but Cora said this latest injury is “in the other side” and unrelated. The tests, he said, are “going on just to make sure.” Duvall is hitting .455 and four home runs and 14 RBI in eight games this season. The Red Sox are 5-4 headed into their series with the Rays. Cora said the team will rotate to cover for Duvall in the outfield until he can return rather than appoint a more permanent replacement.
"With the way we're going to do it now, we have to mix and match and try to maximize the whole roster," Cora said,
