. Demetrious D’andre Dixon, a cofounder of The Kastle known in the Chicago dance scene as “Nero the Professor,” DJed the event. Among the dance battlers were three from Chicago, including Jefferson Park-based semifinalist Jacob Dunn.
Dunn, who performs under the name JDunn, grew up watching dance competitions. His mom was a breakdancer in the 1990s, and his aunt put him in choreographed hip-hop classes when he was a kid. In Dunn’s experience, Chicago’s choreographed and street dance scenes exist pretty separately from each other. He wishes street dancers had the same connections with musical artists that choreographed dancers do., thinks the event demonstrates that the city’s street dance scene is becoming more established.Chris Hershman/Red Bull Content Pool
