Singapore's Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) reported a record-breaking 553,000 crossings at the Singapore-Malaysia land border on December 13th, 2024. This surge in traffic is attributed to the festive holidays. ICA anticipates continued heavy traffic at Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints and advises travelers to plan accordingly, allowing for additional waiting times, particularly during peak weekends. The authority also recommends utilizing cross-border bus services as an alternative.
Singapore ’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority has revealed that a record number of people crossed the Singapore - Malaysia land border checkpoints on 13 December, with over 553,000 crossings recorded within 24 hours.
In a press release, ICA said that the over 553,000 crossings on 13 December surpassed the previous peak recorded in September 2024, when 543,000 crossings were recorded. Due to the high volume of travellers, car travellers departing during peak periods had to wait up to 3 hours for immigration clearance due to traffic tailback from Malaysia.Hence, ICA advised travellers to factor in additional waiting time, especially over the weekends, and alternatively, ICA told travellers to consider taking the cross-border bus services.
