Coaches and players representing 24 San Antonio area high school football teams gathered at Heroes Stadium on Wednesday for the announcement of the seventh annual Peanut Butter Bowls series.
Peanut butter to be donated are basked in morning light during an event announcing this year’s Peanut Butter Bowl at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio, TX, on July 27, 2022. The Peanut Butter Bowl, started in 2016, is a series of local high school football games with23 local teams will donating their proceeds and jars of peanut butter to local food banks.
Stevens coach Anthony Boykin said his team helped establish a food bank the school, so participating in the series was a natural fit. Last year, there were 10 games that drew donations of more than 43,000 jars. Madison raised with most with a record 5,815 jars in advance of its game against Clemens. Johnson continued participation in the series when Mark Soto took over for Rittimann. Soto said he realized the importance of the game when he began working at Johnson. Soto, now at Judson, will continue his involvement in the Rockets’ season-opener against Johnson on Aug. 27 at the Alamodome.
