It was around two years after she had started suffering from that backache but no doctor had ever linked her symptoms or sent her for tests. "On the one hand it was very shocking but on the other hand it was actually quite validating," she said."All the symptoms I knew up to that point it seemed they had to be leading to something major."Sadly, the tumour was found to have spread to her stomach and pancreaDespite chemotherapy and another major surgery the cancer has spread to her liver and lungs.
She's now hoping to take part in an experimental immunotherapy trial which she hope will give her as long a life as possible.In fact one in ten new bowel cancer cases in Australia are now in people under 50."Most of the doctors will say, 'oh but you're too young to have that'. I think we really need to raise awareness among GP that the age is actually shifting younger," she said.
