THE water level at the Angat Dam, where Metro Manila and adjoining provinces are dependent on for their water supply, continues to drop because of the lack of substantial rainfall, particularly in the northern part of the country where the main reservoir is located, a hydrologist of the state-run weather agency said on Friday.
The water level may further drop to 173-175 meters by May if the hot weather persists, Pagasa said.At this low level, Caringal said water rationing can be expected and water supply for irrigation will be halted to prioritize the need for potable water.Caringal also said that brownouts may occur in some areas because 'the main turbine can no longer generate electricity and only small turbines that cannot provide much power to much bigger areas'.
