A fire broke out at Kuala Lumpur's Taman Mutiara MRT station yesterday , likely due to a battery-related issue in the communications room. Rapid Rail suspended operations at the station for safety reasons, as confirmed in a statement on Ask Rapid KL's Twitter account.
The fire, which involved a 32-square-foot area, was reported yesterday evening, at 4:52pm. Personnel from the Cheras and Jalan Hang Tuah fire departments quickly dispatch their firefighters to contain the blaze. Thick smoke was seen to be coming out of the communications equipment room but it was quickly contained by the firefighters. They managed to control the fire by 6:26pm and fully extinguished it by 7:04pm.Thankfully, no passengers or staff were injured.
Rapid Rail has investigated the cause of the fire and announced the station’s reopening on their Ask Rapid KL's Twitter account. Additional staff and auxiliary police were on-site yesterday to ensure safety and control which helped smoothen the work of the firefighters.Passengers of MRT Taman Mutiara Station can now commute to work easily as the station has been reopened this morning.
