Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Duran will remain in the regular lineup after Corey Seager returns from a rehab assignment.
“It’s hard to just find one thing he’s done well, it’s his overall game,” Bochy said. “He’s just been a good all-around baseball player. It’s hard not to have him out there a lot. I don’t know how many days that will be, but we’ve got to find a spot for him somewhere the way he’s swinging the bat. I have to get creative.”
Kirby, the latest in a long line of Seattle starters to torment the Rangers, allowed six hits in seven shutout innings Tuesday. Kirby has started five games against the Rangers since making his MLB debut last year; Seattle has won all five. He has a 1.51 ERA in 29.2 innings with 25 strikeouts and just three walks. Of course, over the last four years, Seattle has pretty much won regardless of who is on the mound.
Seager will fly to Texas on Wednesday and join Double-A Frisco to begin his rehab assignment Thursday. He is likely to play there at least through the weekend before being re-evaluated. Jankowski, who strained his hamstring Sunday, was officially placed on the 10-day IL Tuesday. The move was retroactive to Monday, meaning he’s eligible to return on May 19.
