PAGASA says the start of the rainy season is expected by the end of May as it monitors a tropical cyclone outside of the country's weather monitoring area that could affect weather conditions next week.

Filipinos may expect the start of the rainy season by the last week of May, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said on Saturday.

Meanwhile, PAGASA is monitoring a tropical depression outside of the Philippine Area of Responsibility , seen to intensify in the coming days. The tropical cyclone is seen moving northward at 20 kph, expected to move north-northwest towards Guam by Sunday then northwestward by Wednesday. Once it enters the country's weather monitoring area, it will be named Betty, the second tropical cyclone for 2023 and the first for the month of May.
