The Smile, featuring Radiohead members Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood as well as Tom Skinner from Sons of Kemet, performs in San Francisco.
Here’s something that should have Bay Area Radiohead fans grinning from ear to ear.
The Smile — the cool art-rock trio featuring Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood as well as Tom Skinner from jazz outfit Sons of Kemet — is set to perform on Dec. 18 at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco. The trio is supporting the debut album “A Light for Attracting Attention,” which was produced by the amazing Nigel Godrich. The acclaimed producer has worked with Radiohead on such landmark efforts as “OK Computer” and “Kid A” .
“A Light for Attracting Attention” is chock full of memorably moody numbers, the vast majority of which, not surprisingly, would fit pretty seamlessly on a Radiohead album. Yorke’s vocals are terrific throughout, as is Skinner’s drum work. And, of course, we always dig the chance to hear Greenwood play guitar.
The music translates wonderfully on record, but it reportedly sounds marvelous in the live arena as well. Indeed, Julian Casablancas of the Strokes caught the Smile in concert and reported back to his followers on Instagram that it was the “best show i’ve seen in YEARS.”
