Downtown Country radio presenter Victoria Quinn chats to RSVP Country about growing up listening to country music and her favourite artists and songs to play
27 year old Downtown Country radio presenter Victoria Quinn has opened up about her childhood spent listening to country music, saying that attending Garth Brooks's concert last year was bittersweet due to her late father being a huge fan.
"Most of the presenters in Downtown Country and Cool FM knew me before I got this job as I had been in and out, trying to get a foot in the door. In 2019, I was in the right place at the right time, a station called Q Radio took me on as their late night presenter. I was playing all the love songs and requests," she adds.
"My Mum and Dad loved Garth Brooks, Shania Twain, Faith Hill, all those real iconic 90s and 2000s country stars, but my parents listened to all different types of music as well. Before I niched into the country radio station, I was presenting on the mainstream pop station, so I did have an interest in different types of music.
As for her favourite artists, Victoria says she has loved Taylor Swift ever since her debut album before she was massive. "There’s also a lot of love songs. I think a lot of music nowadays is crossing between different genres, some of the ‘country’ songs I play sound almost like pop.""If I get a message from a listener who needs a wee boost, or I am feeling tired that morning, I will put on something like Shania Twain’s Man! I Feel Like A Woman . Our day to day playlist is usually very chill.
