A 69-year-old Australian woman, Stephanie Alesandra Bank, was involved in a heated altercation on a Fiji Airways flight, leading to her being restrained by the cabin crew and duct-taped. The incident, captured on video by a fellow passenger, took place on flight FJ871 en route from Australia to Nadi, Fiji. The video footage shows Bank engaging in a loud and abusive tirade, hurling insults and racist remarks at the flight attendants.
Initially, the confrontation began due to a disagreement between Bank and her husband regarding a seat change. When the crew refused to disclose the husband's new seating location, Bank escalated her behavior, resorting to offensive language and threats. A crew member attempted to de-escalate the situation by sitting beside Bank, but this only further enraged her. She repeatedly called the crew member a 'f*cking b*tch' and made racist comments about their Pacific Islander heritage. Bank's behavior continued to escalate, causing distress to other passengers. When the crew tried to explain that she was disrupting other passengers, she retorted, 'Stop provoking me! You're provoking me!' She also threatened to take the crew to the US embassy. As the situation spiraled out of control, the crew ultimately resorted to duct-taping Bank's mouth to gain control. Upon landing in Fiji, Bank was arrested by local authorities and subsequently fined AUD345 (approximately RM951) for unruly passenger behavior under Fiji's Civil Aviation Act. Police confirmed that Bank was intoxicated and caused a disturbance, including hurling racist and vulgar comments at the crew members
