The Carrington Event was a powerful geomagnetic storm that occurred in 1859; it is named after the astronomer Richard Carrington, who observed the solar flare that preceded it. According to a study published in the “Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics”, auroras were reported from tropical regions in both hemispheres during the Carrington Event.
