Have you ever received recruitment messages offering you an easy part-time job with returns that are too hard to resist, and wondered if they were fraudulent? Could it be that online part-time job scams are indeed on the rise?
Well, according to Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, there has been an 82.3% increase in such cases from January to July this year compared to the same period last year.
He said the syndicates’ modus operandi involved victims receiving a short message via Telegram or WhatsApp with part-time job offers from unknown phone numbers. "The first task is to buy goods on an e-commerce platform with a small amount of capital and the victims are required to deposit the money into the syndicates’ account.
He added that the victims will then be asked to complete more tasks with larger amounts of purchases before they eventually realise that they have been duped when they do not get the promised profit percentage.
