Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate says Queensland potentially hosting the Commonwealth Games is a good “test run” in preparation for the Olympics. “It comes back to the Premier, and I say to the Premier, ‘we’ve had our conversation, you’re focusing on the Olympics, 2032, nine years away’,” Mr Tate said during a press conference on Tuesday. “I am confident we can do a 2026 Commonwealth Games, and the benefit for that is another good test run as we upgrade our facility for the Olympics level.”
