Population growth and an ageing population means other health targets are being missed.

Queensland Health is missing key performance criteria in its emergency department and elective surgery operations despite record budgets, its 2022-23 annual report shows.

Although 80 per cent of patients should be seen and leave Queensland’s emergency departments, the 2022-23annual report shows only 62 per cent leave after four hours.Health Minister Shannon Fentiman said the number of people arriving at emergency departments increased by up to 12 per cent in the past 12 months.

It targets 90 per cent of patients to be transferred from ambulance stretchers within 30 minutes, but was able toQueensland Health 2022-23 emergency department and elective surgery targetsNext most serious target: 75% within 30 minutesactual: 60.4%Queensland Health met the target for elective surgeries, but the wait time for less serious cases were outside recommended times due to staff dealing with COVID treatments.72.

People seen with less serious illnesses and injuries increased by 6 per cent, an issue Queensland Health is targeting with new satellite hospitals.
