ade possible thanks to a new chip by Qualcomm called the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 1 which the company has provided more details on after the Quest Pro’s release.
According to Qualcomm’s official website, the new SoC supports 8k 60fps 360-degree video, ‘concurrent perception’ technologies, including head, hand and controller tracking, 3D construction, automatic room mapping and high pixel density. Furthermore, it also sports a new image processing pipeline that achieves less than 10ms latency. As such unlocks full-colour video passthrough for mixed reality.
In terms of performance and efficiency, the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 1 has a 30 per cent improved thermal performance compared to its predecessor as well as 50 per cent higher sustained power. Qualcomm revealed that multiple OEMs have already committed to launching VR devices powered by the new chip by the end of the year.
